Prints
Linocuts are a form of relief print.
When I create a design I trace it on to a lino block and use fine carving tools to create the design and the areas that are carved stay white when printed. These are original designs of mine and cut from traditional lino and then handprinted to give them that original uniqueness.
Here you will find linocut prints inspired by plants, animals and places I have visited here in the UK and other places in the world.
Reduction lino prints
Reduction linocuts are a more complex lino print. This is where the whole design is created by carving into the same block each time to get a new layer colour.
Each layer is carefully planned.
I use tracing paper to print each layer before I carve the next layer, this helps me to decide where I will carve the next layer as once I start carving there is no going back. Careful registration using ‘Terns burton’ tabs help line up each layer.
To create the different layers I start with the lightest colour first and build up to the final darker layer.
